[18F]Fluoroestradiol-University of Utah is a radiopharmaceutical imaging agent developed for use in positron emission tomography (PET) scans. It consists of the estrogen analog 16α-[18F]-fluoro-17β-estradiol (FES), which binds with high affinity and specificity to the estrogen receptor (ER). By utilizing the radioactive isotope fluorine-18, the tracer allows for the noninvasive, whole-body visualization and quantification of functional estrogen receptor expression. This imaging modality is particularly valuable in the management of metastatic breast cancer, as it helps identify patients who are likely to benefit from endocrine therapies and detects the loss of ER expression that characterizes treatment-refractory disease. This specific formulation is utilized by the University of Utah as a companion diagnostic in the FORESEE trial to guide therapeutic decision-making in functional precision oncology.
